Marché de Saint-Nazaire-Trignac & Local Farm Stalls
Saint-Malo-de-Guersac is a small commune, so its residents shop at the lively markets of neighbouring Saint-Nazaire and at the roadside farm stalls that pop up along the D50 corridor in summer. These stalls are where you'll find produce you simply won't see in a supermarket — smoked eel from the Brière canals, fleur de sel from nearby Guérande, and honey infused with marsh wildflowers.
What to buy
Guérande sea salt — harvested just 20 km west — is sold in cloth bags directly by paludiers (salt farmers) at market stalls; the grey gros sel and the prized fleur de sel are both essential souvenirs.
Smoked eel (anguille fumée) from local fishermen is a Brière speciality that appears on restaurant menus and market tables alike; try it cold with a squeeze of lemon on a slice of rye bread.
Where to go
The covered market in Saint-Nazaire (Place du Commando, 15 min by car) runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 8 am to 1 pm and has a strong local-produce section.
In summer, small roadside stands near Rozé and along the route de la Brière sell seasonal vegetables, eggs and marsh honey — no fixed hours, but most are staffed from mid-morning.
