Saint-Lary-Soulan Ski Resort & Télécabine de la Soulan

Saint-Lary-Soulan's cable-car system whisks visitors from the village centre at 830 m up to Pla d'Adet at 1,700 m in under ten minutes, making the mountain accessible even if you haven't laced up a boot. In winter it serves 100 km of ski runs; in summer it becomes the gateway to high-altitude hiking and mountain-biking trails.

On the Snow

The resort spans three linked sectors — Pla d'Adet, Espiaube and Vallon du Portet — with slopes ranging from wide beginner blues to the steep blacks dropping off the Col du Portet at 2,215 m. The Col du Portet sector regularly hosts stages of the Tour de France in summer, which gives you a sense of just how savage the gradients are.

Night skiing operates on selected evenings in peak winter season, when the piste lights up under a sky that, at this altitude and latitude, is genuinely star-packed. Book ski hire in the village rather than at the base station to save both money and queue time.

Summer on the Mountain

When the snow melts, Pla d'Adet transforms into a mountain-bike park with 25 marked descents, and the télécabine runs through July and August so you can ride up and shred down without earning the vertical. A network of waymarked walking trails leads from the top station toward the Cirque de la Hourquette and onward into the Néouvielle reserve.

The panoramic restaurant Le Pla d'Adet at the top station serves hearty Pyrenean lunches — think garbure soup and local lamb — with a south-facing terrace that catches sun from mid-morning until late afternoon.
