Gorges de la Diosaz
Just six kilometres from Saint-Gervais in the village of Servoz, a suspended walkway threads through a narrow limestone canyon where glacial meltwater has carved cascades, potholes and natural arches over millennia. It is one of the most visually dramatic short walks in the Mont Blanc region.
The Walk Through the Gorge
The signed path follows a series of metal catwalks and wooden bridges bolted directly into the cliff face, giving the sensation of walking inside the mountain. The gorge narrows to just a few metres at its tightest point, and the roar of the Diosaz torrent is almost physical.
The full circuit takes about 45–60 minutes and gains very little elevation, making it accessible for families with older children and travellers who prefer spectacular scenery without a strenuous climb. The deepest section culminates at a 30-metre waterfall that sends spray across the path.
Light and Photography
The canyon faces east and the best light filters down between the walls in mid-morning, turning the water an improbable mint-green against dark limestone. A wide-angle lens or a phone with a panoramic mode captures the full drama of the overhanging walls.
The gorge stays cool even in August — bring a light jacket and expect to get slightly damp near the main waterfall. The contrast between the cold canyon and the warm meadow at the exit is genuinely refreshing.
Getting There
From Saint-Gervais, drive the D43 toward Servoz; the gorge entrance is signposted on the left with a small car park. Alternatively, the Mont Blanc Express train stops at Servoz station, a 10-minute walk from the entrance.
The gorge is open daily from mid-May to mid-October; entry is ticketed and timed slots are sometimes used on busy summer weekends.
