Sentiero degli Innamorati (Lovers' Path)

The Sentiero degli Innamorati — the Lovers' Path — is a waymarked coastal walking trail that links Praiano to the hamlet of Vettica Maggiore through a landscape of terraced gardens, ancient mule tracks and staggering sea views. Less trafficked than the famous Path of the Gods above, it rewards those who lace up their shoes with intimate vistas that feel entirely private.

The Route

The trail begins near the church of San Gennaro in Vettica Maggiore and winds eastward along the cliff face, passing through working lemon groves where the scent of blossoms in spring is almost narcotic. The path is roughly 3 km one-way and involves moderate ascents and descents on stone steps — allow 1.5 to 2 hours at a leisurely pace.

Midway along the route, a natural rock ledge offers an unobstructed view down to Marina di Praia and across to the Fiordo di Furore — the narrow fjord-like inlet that appears on a thousand postcards — making it one of the best photography spots on the entire coast.

Wildlife & Flora

The scrub vegetation along the path is alive with Sardinian warblers, peregrine falcons hunting the thermals above the cliffs, and in May the yellow flowers of Euphorbia dendroides turn the hillside luminous.

Wild fennel, oregano and thyme grow between the stones underfoot, and the terraced plots you pass through are still tended by local families producing sfusato amalfitano lemons — the elongated, intensely fragrant variety protected by IGP status.
