Il Pirata Restaurant & Cave Bar
Built into a natural grotto at the water's edge near Marina di Praia, Il Pirata is simultaneously one of the Amalfi Coast's most atmospheric restaurants and its most theatrical cocktail bar. Candlelit stalactites overhead, the lap of the sea a metre below your feet, and a plate of spaghetti alle vongole in front of you — this is not a gimmick, it is genuinely memorable dining.
The Food
The kitchen leans hard into Campanian seafood tradition: expect linguine al polpo (octopus pasta), grilled orata with wild herbs from the hillside above, and a dessert trolley loaded with sfogliatelle and homemade limoncello granita.
Portions are generous and prices are honest by Amalfi Coast standards — a full seafood dinner with wine runs around €40–55 per person, which is remarkable given the setting.
The Cave Bar Experience
Even if you skip dinner, the aperitivo hour at the cave bar is worth the descent down the Praia staircase. The house Negroni is served in a rocks glass with a slice of Amalfi lemon and a sprig of rosemary, and you drink it watching small waves slap the cave walls as the sky outside turns pink.
Live acoustic music — typically a guitarist playing Neapolitan classics — starts most evenings around 8 pm in summer, drifting out over the cove.
