Parque Forestal de Pozuelo
Stretching across the northwestern fringe of the municipality, this expansive pine and oak woodland is the green lung that Pozuelo residents guard jealously. Marked trails, open-air fitness stations and picnic clearings make it equally appealing for a brisk morning run or a lazy Sunday family outing.
Trails Through Mediterranean Scrubland
The park's network of signposted dirt paths winds through Pinus pinea and Quercus ilex — the same species that carpet the Sierra de Guadarrama foothills visible on clear days to the north. Trail distances range from a gentle 2 km loop to a more ambitious 8 km circuit that skirts the municipal boundary with Las Rozas.
Spring is the showiest season: rockroses (Cistus ladanifer) carpet the understorey in white and magenta, and hoopoes can be spotted probing the leaf litter. Autumn brings a golden light through the canopy that photographers chase relentlessly.
Facilities and Practical Notes
Several well-maintained picnic areas with stone tables and rubbish bins are scattered along the main entrance track off Calle Monte Carmelo. A small children's adventure playground sits near the southern car park, making this a reliable family destination when city parks feel overcrowded.
Dogs are welcome on leads throughout, and the wide central path is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. Water fountains are available at the main entrance but dry up on the outer trails, so carry your own on longer routes.
