Mirador del Cerro de Pozuelo
The modest hill rising at the northern end of Pozuelo de Alarcón delivers a panorama that stops first-time visitors mid-sentence: the Cuatro Torres skyscrapers spike the eastern horizon, the Sierra de Guadarrama fills the north with snow-capped peaks in winter, and on a clear day you can pick out the Pirámides towers in Carabanchel to the south. It costs nothing and takes 20 minutes to climb.
The View and When to Go
The summit sits at roughly 720 m above sea level — modest by Sierra standards but elevated enough above the meseta to command an unobstructed 180-degree arc from northwest to southeast. Sunset is the magic hour: the Cuatro Torres catch the orange light and the Sierra fades to violet behind them, a composition that justifies the climb on its own.
Winter mornings after a cold front passes are equally spectacular. The air scrubs clear overnight, snow dusts the Guadarrama peaks, and the capital's skyline shimmers with unusual sharpness. Bring a jacket — the hilltop is exposed and the wind can be cutting from November through March.
Getting Up There
A well-worn footpath begins at the end of Calle Cerro de Pozuelo, where a small unpaved car park holds around 15 vehicles. The ascent follows a clear dirt track through rosemary and lavender scrubland and takes a steady 20 minutes at walking pace. Trail runners use it as a warm-up loop.
There are no facilities at the top — no café, no benches, just a trig point and the view. Pack water and a snack if you plan to linger, and download the area on a maps app as mobile signal can be patchy on the approach path.
