Castro de Coaña
Perched on a granite spur above the Navia River valley, Castro de Coaña is one of the best-preserved Celtic castro settlements in the whole Iberian Peninsula. Walking its stone-walled circular huts, you feel the full weight of 2,500 years of Asturian prehistory beneath your feet.
What You'll See
The site spreads across nearly three hectares and contains the remains of over 80 circular and rectangular dwellings, a defensive rampart, and a communal sauna building — a rare find in northern Spain.
A small on-site museum displays bronze fibulae, ceramics and everyday objects excavated here, giving human scale to the ruins you've just walked through.
Planning Your Visit
The castro sits about 10 km south of Navia town centre; follow the AS-12 road toward Coaña village and signs appear well before the car park.
Morning light is ideal for photography — the low sun catches the stone walls beautifully and the valley mist often lingers below the hill until around 10 am.
