Punta de Jandía Lighthouse & Land's End Walk
At the far southwestern tip of Fuerteventura, the 1909 Faro de Jandía lighthouse stands alone on a volcanic headland battered by Atlantic swells — a genuinely remote spot that feels like the edge of the world. The dirt track drive and short walk reward you with panoramic ocean views, wild goats on lava fields, and almost total silence.
The Drive and the Landscape
From Morro Jable a 15 km unpaved piste (passable in a standard hire car in dry conditions) winds through the Jandía Natural Park past rust-red volcanic hills and the tiny fishing hamlet of Puerto de la Cruz, where a handful of families still live without mains electricity. The landscape is stark and cinematic — think Patagonia with palm-fringed coves.
Wild Majorero goats pick their way across the lava alongside the track, completely unbothered by passing cars. Stop at the Cofete beach viewpoint on the way for a jaw-dropping bird's-eye view of the remote, surf-crashed Playa de Cofete below.
The Lighthouse & Beyond
The whitewashed Faro de Jandía is still operational and its keeper's cottages have been converted into a basic but charming restaurant-bar, El Faro de Jandía, serving fresh fish and cold drinks — a surreal luxury at the end of a dirt road.
Short scramble paths lead down to wave-lashed rock platforms where you can watch Atlantic rollers crash with full force. On clear days the silhouette of Gran Canaria is visible 100 km to the east, and migrating birds use the headland as a waypoint in autumn.
