Punta Bonfiglio Terrace
Perched above Manarola's harbour on a rocky promontory, Punta Bonfiglio delivers the postcard panorama of colourful houses tumbling toward the Ligurian Sea that you came to Cinque Terre for. Arrive thirty minutes before golden hour and you will have the best free show in Italy.
The Walk Up
From the main piazza follow the signed path past the cemetery — the climb takes barely ten minutes and the gradient is gentle enough for any fitness level.
As you ascend, gaps in the pine trees frame increasingly dramatic views back over the tower and the stacked pastel houses, so keep your camera ready on the way up, not just at the top.
What You See at the Top
The terrace itself is a wide, flat platform with stone benches where locals bring wine and visitors bring wide-angle lenses. To the north you can pick out Corniglia on its cliff; on clear days Portovenere floats in the haze to the south.
The foreground is pure drama: the ancient black-rock breakwater, bobbing fishing dinghies painted in primary colours, and the vine terraces that drape the hillside like a rumpled green quilt.
Practical Tips
The spot is busiest in July and August between 7 pm and 9 pm. Come in May or September for elbow room and softer light.
There is a small seasonal bar near the top selling local Sciacchetrà dessert wine — sipping it here while the sun drops into the sea is one of the great simple pleasures of the Italian Riviera.
