Nessun Dorma Pesto & Wine Bar

Nessun Dorma is the kind of place that ruins you for other aperitivo spots: a narrow terrace carved into the cliff above Manarola's harbour, serving bruschetta loaded with Ligurian pesto, local anchovies and creamy stracchino cheese alongside glasses of Vermentino that cost less than you expect. The view straight down to the turquoise water is pure theatre.

What to Order

The focaccia al pesto is non-negotiable — thick, pillowy Ligurian focaccia spread with bright-green basil pesto made from Genovese DOP basil, pine nuts and aged Parmigiano. Pair it with the house Cinque Terre DOC white, a crisp, mineral blend of Bosco, Albarola and Vermentino grapes.

For something more substantial, the trofie al pesto (the region's twisted short pasta) is made fresh daily. The anchovy bruschetta with capers and lemon zest is a masterclass in five-ingredient simplicity.

The Setting

Tables are set on a stone terrace at the top of the path that leads down to the swimming rocks, so the view encompasses the harbour entrance, the lighthouse rock and the open sea beyond. At midday the water below shifts from jade to cobalt depending on cloud cover.

The bar is small — perhaps 30 covers — and does not take reservations. Arrive at opening time (noon) or after 4 pm to avoid the longest waits. Staff are unhurried and genuinely friendly, not performatively so.

Practical Notes

Nessun Dorma is located on Via Zanoni, a short walk uphill from the harbour. Look for the hand-painted sign; the entrance is easy to miss on first pass.

Prices are honest for the location: bruschetta plates run €6–10, wine by the glass €4–7. Cash and cards both accepted.
