Torrent de na Borges & Parc Natural de Llevant Trails

The February Almond Blossom
Between late January and early March, the farmland between Manacor and Artà becomes one of the most photographed landscapes in the Mediterranean as thousands of almond trees flower simultaneously. The area around the hamlet of Son Servera and the road between Manacor and Sant Llorenç (Ma-4030) offers classic blossom views without the coach-tour crowds that descend on the Tramuntana.
For the best blossom photography, aim for overcast mornings when the soft light prevents harsh shadows and the white petals glow almost luminously against the red Mallorcan soil. A polarising filter helps saturate the sky behind the branches.
Walking and Wildlife
The Parc Natural de Llevant has a network of well-marked trails starting from the Coll d'Artà car park (roughly 25 km north-east of Manacor on the Ma-4040). The 9-km Camí de Ferrutx loop is the most rewarding for first-timers, passing through garrigue scrubland and pine forest with reliable sightings of Eleonora's falcons and red kites overhead.
The Torrent de na Borges, which drains the plains between Manacor and Alcúdia, is a lesser-visited wetland corridor that attracts migrating waders and herons in spring and autumn. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars and arrive at dawn for the best activity.
Mountain bikes can be hired in Manacor town from several shops on Carrer Olesa; the flat agricultural tracks between Manacor and Porto Cristo make for an easy 25-km round-trip suitable for all fitness levels, passing through classic Mallorcan countryside with sea views at the end.
