Manacor Weekly Market (Plaça Ramon Llull)
Every Monday morning, the broad Plaça Ramon Llull and the streets radiating from it transform into one of inland Mallorca's most authentic weekly markets, where farmers, artisans and stall-holders from across the comarca set up from dawn. It is the best place in the region to buy genuine Mallorcan sobrassada, local almonds and the town's world-famous artificial pearls at factory prices.
What to Buy and Where to Look
The food section clusters around the covered market building on Carrer Pius XII and spills onto adjacent streets. Look for vendors selling trempó (Mallorcan pepper-and-tomato salad), fresh figs in season, local honey from the Llevant hills and wheels of aged Mahón-style cheese brought over from Menorca.
The craft and clothing section stretches along Avinguda del Parc. Here you will find leather goods, handmade ceramics painted with traditional Mallorcan motifs, and stalls selling the distinctive roba de llengues (tongue-patterned fabric) used for everything from tablecloths to espadrilles.
For Majorica and Perles Orquídea pearl necklaces, skip the market stalls and walk five minutes to the factory showrooms on Carrer de la Verònica, where prices are lower and authenticity is guaranteed.
Timing and Local Tips
Stalls begin setting up at around 08:00 and the market is in full swing by 09:30; most vendors start packing away by 13:30, so an early arrival is essential if you want the pick of the fresh produce.
After shopping, join locals for a café amb llet and an ensaïmada at Bar Rambla on the square — it has been a market-day institution for decades and the pastries are made fresh each morning.
Parking is tight on market day; the best strategy is to leave the car at the free lot near the Manacor bus station on Carrer Antoni Maura and walk the five minutes into the centre.
