Playa de San Lorenzo
A sweeping 1.5-kilometre arc of golden sand right in the heart of the city, Playa de San Lorenzo is one of Spain's finest urban beaches — backed by a grand promenade and framed by green headlands on both ends.
The Beach Itself
The sand is fine and well-kept, the Atlantic surf is real enough to thrill bodyboarders, and lifeguards patrol throughout the summer season — making it as safe as it is spectacular.
At either end you'll find natural rock formations to explore at low tide, while the central stretch fills with colourful parasols and the easy rhythm of Asturian beach life from June through September.
The Promenade & Surroundings
The Paseo del Muro de San Lorenzo runs the full length of the beach, lined with cafés, ice-cream kiosks and benches perfectly angled for watching the surf roll in.
At the western tip, the old fishermen's quarter of Cimadevilla rises steeply on a rocky promontory — a five-minute walk that takes you from beach towels to medieval street plans in moments.
Practical Tips
Early mornings in July and August are magical: the light is soft, the sand is empty and the sea glitters before the crowds arrive.
Parking near the beach is scarce in summer; the city centre is compact enough that walking or cycling from most hotels is the smartest move.
