Mercato Settimanale di Frosinone – Piazza Vittorio Veneto
Every Tuesday morning the lower town's broad Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the surrounding streets transform into one of the liveliest weekly markets in southern Lazio, drawing farmers, cheese-mongers and clothing vendors from across the Ciociaria region. It is the kind of market where you can buy a wheel of Pecorino di Picinisco DOP, a string of dried chillies and a pair of work boots all in the sam
What to Buy
The food stalls are the real draw: look for vendors selling hand-rolled pasta shapes like sagne 'ntorte and cecamariti, alongside fresh ricotta still warm from the morning's production, local honey from Ernici mountain hives, and bundles of wild chicory foraged from the valley hillsides.
Pecorino di Picinisco, the only DOP cheese produced in the province of Frosinone, appears here in young (fresco) and aged (stagionato) forms. Ask the vendor to let you taste before you buy — they almost always will.
Atmosphere and Timing
Arrive before 09:00 if you want first pick of the produce and the best light for photographs. By 10:30 the market is at its most atmospheric, with the piazza buzzing and the smell of roasting porchetta drifting from a dedicated van that parks near the fountain every week without fail.
The market winds down and vendors begin packing up around 13:00, so plan a morning visit and combine it with a coffee at one of the bars on the square.
