Pointe du Millier

A fifteen-minute drive northwest of Douarnenez along the Crozon Peninsula, the Pointe du Millier is a grassy, wind-scoured headland where the Baie de Douarnenez opens dramatically into the Atlantic. A small 19th-century lighthouse perches at the tip, and on clear days the view sweeps from the Pointe du Raz in the south all the way to the Crozon cliffs in the north.

The Walk to the Tip

Park at the small signed car park and follow the GR34 coastal path for roughly 20 minutes through gorse and heather to reach the lighthouse. The path is easy underfoot but exposed, so bring a windproof layer even in summer — the Baie de Douarnenez channels a reliable Atlantic breeze.

As you approach the point, the land drops sharply to reveal stacked schist cliffs and, far below, the deep turquoise water that makes Breton postcards so irresistible. Seals occasionally haul out on the rocks at the base; scan with binoculars from the path above.

Sunset and Light

The Pointe du Millier faces almost due west, making it one of the finest sunset spots in Finistère. Arrive an hour before dusk and watch the light turn the bay from silver to copper while fishing boats head back toward Douarnenez harbour.

Photographers should note that the lighthouse, though not open to the public, frames beautifully against a coloured sky from the south side of the headland. A wide-angle lens captures both the structure and the full sweep of the bay.

Combining with a Longer Walk

The GR34 continues north from the Pointe du Millier toward the Plage du Pors Poulhan and eventually Morgat, making a full half-day coastal hike possible if you arrange a car shuttle. Southward, the path descends to the tiny beach at Pors Poulhan, a sheltered cove almost always deserted outside July and August.

The nearest village, Beuzec-Cap-Sizun, has a simple crêperie open in season — a welcome stop after the walk.
