Thermal Baths at Les Thermes de Digne-les-Bains

Digne has been a spa town since Roman times, and its thermal establishment on Avenue des Thermes remains one of the most affordable and least pretentious in Provence. The sulphurous waters, emerging at 46 °C, are particularly prized for respiratory and rheumatological treatments — but you don't need a medical referral to enjoy the pools.

Taking the Waters

The leisure circuit — open to day visitors without a prescription — includes an indoor thermal pool, a jet-massage channel and a steam room infused with local lavender essential oil. The water has a faint mineral tang and leaves skin noticeably silky.

A 90-minute 'découverte thermale' package costs around €25 and includes access to all wet facilities plus a robe and towel — exceptional value compared to equivalent spa experiences on the Côte d'Azur.

Around the Spa Quarter

The thermal quarter sits in a tree-lined park beside the Eaux-Chaudes stream, about 1 km east of the town centre. The 19th-century pump room building has been sensitively restored and the surrounding gardens are planted with Mediterranean herbs and roses.

A short walk upstream leads to a small natural hot spring seep where you can dip your feet in warm sulphurous water for free — a charming and completely uncommercialized experience.
