Playa de Sant Antoni & Playa del Marenyet
While Cullera's main Playa Gran draws the summer hordes, the quieter arc of Sant Antoni beach to the north and the wild, dune-backed Marenyet strip to the south offer the same Blue Flag water with far more elbow room and a genuinely local atmosphere.
Sant Antoni: the locals' favourite
Sant Antoni curves gently below the castle hill, sheltered enough for calm water even when a breeze picks up elsewhere. The promenade here is lined with traditional chiringuitos — open-air beach bars — rather than international chains, and the crowd is overwhelmingly Valencian families rather than package tourists.
The water is shallow for a long way out, making it ideal for children, and the sand is fine and pale gold. Arrive by 09:00 in July or August to claim a spot; outside peak season you can have long stretches entirely to yourself.
Marenyet: dunes and solitude
South of the Júcar river mouth, the Playa del Marenyet is a protected, largely undeveloped strip where wind-sculpted dunes back onto the Albufera park. There are no sun-lounger rentals and no beach bars — just sand, sea grass and the sound of waves.
Access is via a short walk across the footbridge over the Júcar canal from the Mareny de Barraquetes road. The lack of facilities keeps it blissfully uncrowded even in high summer, and the dune flora is genuinely beautiful in spring.
