Restaurante La Marquesina
Perched right on Corralejo's working harbour, La Marquesina has been feeding locals and in-the-know visitors for decades with the kind of straightforward, impeccably fresh seafood that makes you question why anyone would eat anywhere else. The daily catch is displayed on ice at the entrance — point at what you want and it arrives grilled with mojo and papas arrugadas.
What to Order
The vieja (parrotfish) is the signature dish of the Canary Islands and La Marquesina does it better than almost anywhere in Corralejo — grilled whole, skin slightly charred, flesh sweet and flaky. Order it with mojo verde and a cold Tropical beer from Gran Canaria.
Fresh prawns (gambas) from the Atlantic are a reliable starter, as are the chipirones (baby squid) fried in olive oil. The kitchen is not elaborate — it does not need to be when the raw ingredients are this good.
The Setting
Tables on the terrace look directly across the small harbour to the fishing boats that supplied your lunch. In the evening the lights of Lobos Island flicker on the water and the atmosphere is effortlessly romantic without trying to be.
The interior is no-frills tile and wooden chairs — this is a working fisherman's restaurant, not a design project. That authenticity is precisely the point. Service is brisk and friendly; reservations are recommended for dinner in high season.
When to Go
Lunch (1 pm–3:30 pm) is the prime sitting, when the fish is freshest and the harbour is at its most active. A three-course lunch with wine for two typically costs €35–50 — remarkable value for the quality.
The restaurant is closed on Mondays. On busy summer evenings, a queue forms outside — join it without complaint; it moves quickly and is worth every minute.
