Flag Beach & the Kite-Surfing Strip
A few kilometres south of Corralejo town, where the dunes of the natural park begin and the FV-1 road runs close to the shore, a stretch of beach known as Flag Beach has become one of the world's top kitesurfing destinations — and watching the spectacle from the sand, with dozens of vivid kites filling the sky above turquoise water, is one of Corralejo's most exhilarating free experiences.
The Kitesurfing Scene
Flag Beach and the adjacent Playa del Moro receive the Canarian trade wind (the alisio) almost every afternoon from spring through autumn, delivering a reliable 15–25 knot breeze that is perfect for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Several schools operate directly from the beach — Kite School Pro Center Flag Beach and Fuerteventura Kite and Windsurf Centre are two of the most established.
Beginners can take a two-hour introductory lesson for around €70–90. The shallow, sandy bottom and consistent wind direction make this one of the safest learning environments in Europe. Intermediate surfers can rent equipment by the hour or day.
For Non-Surfers
Even if you never touch a kite, the beach is a spectacular place to spend an afternoon. Bring a windbreak, a cold drink from the small beach bar, and watch the riders launch off the waves — the acrobatics of experienced kite surfers performing jumps and rotations overhead is genuinely jaw-dropping.
The beach itself is wide, backed by the dunes of the natural park, and the water is a vivid shade of blue-green. It is less crowded than the town beaches because the wind can make sunbathing feel like light sandblasting — but that same wind keeps the temperature perfectly comfortable.
Practical Access
Flag Beach is accessible via a signed track off the FV-1 road, approximately 4 km south of Corralejo centre. There is a free car park and a beach bar-restaurant (Waikiki Beach Club) that serves burgers, salads and cold drinks with a front-row view of the action.
The wind typically picks up between noon and 2 pm and blows steadily until early evening — plan your visit accordingly. Mornings are calmer and better for a quiet swim.
