Sentiero dei Limoni (Path of the Lemons)
Stretching between Maiori and Minori through the hills above Conca dei Marini, the Sentiero dei Limoni is a network of ancient mule tracks that wind through some of the most intensively cultivated lemon terraces on the Amalfi Coast. The scent of sfusato amalfitano lemons — the coast's prized, elongated variety — hangs in the air from spring through autumn.
The walk itself
The main trail takes around two hours at a leisurely pace, climbing through terraces shaded by the distinctive pergola frames draped with lemon trees, their fruit glowing yellow against the dark green foliage. Dry-stone walls, centuries old, line every switchback.
The path passes working farms where you can often buy lemons, limoncello and lemon-infused honey directly from the growers — a transaction conducted in cheerful, gesticulated Italian that needs no translation.
Flora, fauna and views
Beyond the lemon groves, the trail passes through Mediterranean maquis — wild rosemary, myrtle and cistus — and offers elevated views down over Conca dei Marini's cove and the open Tyrrhenian Sea that are completely absent from the coastal road.
Birdwatchers should look out for peregrine falcons nesting in the cliff faces above the terraces, as well as blue rock thrush and the unmistakable flash of a hoopoe in the undergrowth during spring migration.
