The Classic Viewpoint
The main belvedere sits just above the village church of Saint-Nicolas, reachable on foot in under ten minutes from the centre of Combloux. The orientation table installed here names every peak, making it easy for first-timers to identify the giants of the massif without guesswork.
In winter the plateau doubles as the starting point for groomed cross-country ski loops, so you can glide along with the entire massif as your backdrop. In summer the same meadows fill with wildflowers — gentians, arnica, and alpine clover — turning the foreground into a natural frame for every photograph.
Best Times to Visit
Arrive before 9 a.m. in summer to catch the alpenglow on the Aiguille du Midi before valley haze builds up. The plateau faces almost due south-west, which means late-afternoon light in July and August produces long, warm shadows across the snowfields.
Winter sunsets here are particularly theatrical: the sky above Mont Blanc shifts through apricot and rose while the village's wooden chalets glow amber below you. Bring an extra layer even in July — the wind off the glacier arrives without warning.
