Marché de Combloux (Summer Village Market)
Every Wednesday morning in July and August the village square and surrounding lanes transform into a lively open-air market where Savoyard farmers, cheese-makers, and artisans set up stalls that smell overwhelmingly of reblochon and fresh honey. What to Buy
Reblochon fermier from the Aravis plateau is the undisputed star — look for the green casein label on the rind that certifies it was made on the farm with raw milk. Alongside it you'll find tomme de Savoie in various ages, blueberry and gentian jams, and small-batch walnut oil pressed in the valley below Sallanches.
Local honey vendors often bring several varieties: acacia from the lower valley, mountain-flower polyfloral from above 1,500 m, and the intensely aromatic rhododendron honey that is unique to the high pastures. Tasting is expected and encouraged — don't be shy.
Beyond the Food Stalls
A handful of artisan stalls sell hand-carved wooden objects, locally forged ironwork, and linen printed with alpine botanical motifs. The quality varies, but the wood-carvers from the Megève valley are consistently excellent and their work makes a far more meaningful souvenir than anything sold in ski-resort boutiques.
The market winds down by noon, so arrive by 9 a.m. for the best selection of cheese and charcuterie. The Café de la Poste nearby opens early and serves tartines with local butter and jam — the ideal breakfast before you shop.
