Camí de Cavalls — Ciutadella Western Section

The Trail North of Ciutadella: Punta Nati and Beyond
Heading north from Ciutadella's harbour, the Camí de Cavalls passes through a landscape of dry-stone walls, wild rosemary and flat limestone plateau before reaching the lighthouse at Punta Nati — a stark, beautiful promontory where the north coast's rougher, greener personality asserts itself. The lighthouse is unmanned and the surrounding land is unfenced; on windy days the waves send spray over the cliff edge in dramatic curtains of white water.
The 12-kilometre round trip to Punta Nati and back makes a perfect half-day walk, with almost no elevation change and clear waymarking throughout. Birdwatchers should look for Egyptian vultures (Neophron percnopterus) that nest in this part of the island — Menorca holds one of the largest breeding populations in the western Mediterranean.
The Trail South: Cala en Turqueta and Macarella
South of Ciutadella, the Camí de Cavalls leads through holm oak woodland to two of Menorca's most celebrated beaches: Cala en Turqueta and, further along, Macarella. Both are accessible only on foot, by bike or via the trail itself (no vehicles beyond designated car parks), which keeps them significantly quieter than their reputation might suggest outside July and August.
Macarella in particular — a deep horseshoe bay with water the colour of liquid jade — justifies every superlative thrown at it. The 7-kilometre walk from Ciutadella to Macarella takes around 90 minutes at a gentle pace and the return trip can be varied by taking a slightly different inland path through the forest.
