Cernobbio Weekly Market
Every Saturday morning the lungolago and surrounding streets of Cernobbio fill with market stalls selling everything from Lariano salami and local cheeses to handmade ceramics and discounted linens — a vivid slice of everyday Lombard life that the tourist brochures rarely mention. Arrive before 9 a.m. to beat the locals to the best pecorino.
What to buy
The food stalls are the real draw: look for Nostrano dell'Isola cheese from the lake district, bresaola from the Valtellina valley, jars of honey from Brianza beekeepers and fresh-pressed olive oil from the terraced groves above the western shore. A handful of fishermen sometimes sell dried agoni (shad), the lake's signature preserved fish.
Non-food stalls offer practical household goods alongside more giftable finds: hand-embroidered table linen, copper kitchenware, vintage postcards of the lake and occasionally antique silver jewellery. Prices are markedly lower than the boutiques of Como city.
Eating and the morning ritual
After filling your bag, join the locals at Bar Sport or one of the small cafés on Piazza Risorgimento for a standing espresso and a cornetto. This is the real social ritual of a Como Saturday — unhurried, loud and entirely unpretentious.
The market wraps up by 1 p.m., so combine it with a lakeside walk along the Via Regina toward the Villa d'Este gates for a perfect low-key morning. The whole stretch of waterfront is car-free on market days.
