Oranjezicht City Farm Market (OZCF)
Born from a community effort to rescue a derelict bowling green in Oranjezicht, the OZCF Market has grown into Cape Town's most beloved weekend ritual — a lively, beautifully curated gathering of local farmers, artisan bakers, and street-food traders beside the working harbour at Granger Bay.
What You'll Find at the Stalls
The market supports over 40 local farmers and around 80 artisanal food traders, which means the stalls run the full spectrum: organic fruit and vegetables at seasonal peak, freshly baked sourdough, raw honey, free-range meat, fresh seafood, and organic dairy all jostle for your attention in the same aisle.
Beyond produce, the cooked-food stalls cover an impressive range of cuisines — from Cape Malay samoosas to avocado toast, acai bowls, and freshly pulled espresso. Grab a table, order widely, and eat communally; that is exactly what everyone else is doing.
The Story Behind the Market
Sheryl Ozinksy founded the Oranjezicht City Farm in 2012 on the site of a disused bowling green that had become neglected and run-down. The idea was to reconnect the neighbourhood to its agricultural heritage, support local food producers, and educate Cape Townians of all ages about sustainable farming.
The market outgrew its original Oranjezicht site and relocated to Granger Bay at the V&A Waterfront precinct in 2015, where it now draws between 8,000 and 12,000 visitors on a typical weekend — yet somehow retains the warmth of a neighbourhood gathering.
Tips for Your Visit
Arrive early — by 09:00 on a Saturday — for the best selection of produce and to snag a table before the mid-morning rush hits. Smaller stalls often prefer cash, so carry a mix of card and rand.
A summer Wednesday evening market (from 17:00) offers a more relaxed, local atmosphere with fewer tourists and the bonus of cooling sea air off the bay. Check ozcf.co.za for seasonal schedules before you go.
