Marché Forville
Tucked one block behind the Palais des Festivals, Marché Forville is where Cannes chefs and home cooks shop every morning beneath a handsome early-20th-century covered hall. The stalls overflow with Provençal tomatoes, violet artichokes, fresh herbs, olives and locally caught fish — this is the real, fragrant heartbeat of the city.
What to Buy & Taste
Arrive before 9 am to watch fishmongers arrange glistening sea bass, rouget and sea urchins straight off the boats from nearby Golfe-Juan. The socca vendor near the south entrance sells crispy chickpea pancakes hot from a wood-fired pan — eat them standing up with a pinch of black pepper.
Cheese stalls stock aged Banon wrapped in chestnut leaves alongside fresh chèvre from the Var hills. Pick up a jar of tapenade or a bunch of dried lavender as an edible souvenir that won't weigh down your luggage.
Timing & the Brocante
The food market runs Tuesday through Sunday from around 7 am to 1 pm; Monday is brocante day when antique and second-hand dealers take over the hall with vintage postcards, silverware and Riviera curiosities.
The surrounding Quartier Forville streets are lined with small épiceries and wine merchants — extend your stroll along Rue Meynardier, Cannes' pedestrian food street, to stock up on regional wines and candied fruits.
