Ristorante La Fagurida, Griante
Hidden up a narrow lane in Griante — the hamlet that merges seamlessly with Cadenabbia on the hillside — La Fagurida is the kind of place where Como locals go to eat the food their grandmothers made. Stone walls, a shaded terrace and a menu rooted in Lariano tradition make this the most honest meal you'll have on the western shore.
What to Order
Start with missoltini — dried agone fish pressed with bay leaves, a hyper-local Como delicacy that you'll rarely find prepared this carefully outside the province.
Follow with pizzoccheri-adjacent buckwheat pasta or risotto al pesce persico (perch risotto), the latter made with lake perch that arrives fresh from local fishermen rather than a frozen supply chain.
The house polenta taragna — enriched with Valtellina Casera cheese — is the kind of side dish that makes you reconsider the entire concept of side dishes.
The Setting
The terrace looks out through vine-covered pergolas toward the lake, framing Bellagio's promontory on the far shore — you'll spend half the meal just staring at the view.
Service is unhurried and genuinely warm; the owners speak enough English to guide you through the menu but the atmosphere is entirely Italian, especially at Sunday lunch when families fill every table.
Getting There
Griante is a 15-minute uphill walk from the Cadenabbia ferry dock, or a very short taxi ride; the restaurant has limited parking for those arriving by car from the SS340 lakeside road.
Reservations are strongly recommended on weekends and essential in July and August — this place is not a secret among Milanese weekenders.
