Meena Bazaar & Bur Dubai Textile Souk
Famously nicknamed 'Bur Dubai's Little India', Meena Bazaar is a labyrinth of lanes along Al Fahidi Street where embroidered shalwar suits hang beside bolts of raw silk, gold jewellers compete for your attention and the scent of biryani drifts from open-fronted canteens. A short stroll away, the Textile Souk's stone buildings with wooden roofs have been a hub of fabric trade for decades.
A Sensory Overload of Fabric & Gold
Meena Bazaar has existed in some form since 1973 — originally called Cosmo Lane — and today its winding roads overflow with Pakistani embroidery, Kashmiri pashmina shawls, silk sarees, cotton, chiffon and hand-stitched garments. Regal Fabrics is a go-to stop for imported textiles with artistically designed patterns, while Bareeze is beloved for Pakistani ready-to-wear and formal wear.
The Textile Souk, just one kilometre away, is a row of unassuming stone shops under wooden roofs stacked floor to ceiling with the finest quality fabrics. Many traders here are from the Indian subcontinent, and at festivals like Diwali and Eid they offer notable sales. Bargaining is expected and part of the fun.
Gold, Street Food & Evening Atmosphere
Meena Bazaar is home to dozens of gold and jewellery shops, with Malabar Gold and Diamonds a top stop for traditional Indian and Arabic designs starting from around AED 150. Kashmiri pashmina shawls (genuine pieces) run AED 80–200.
As evening falls, cultural performances occasionally animate the lanes, and the street-food stalls come alive with samosas, chai and grilled meats. The market is well-connected: take the Green Line metro to Al Fahidi or Al Ghubaiba stations, or for a memorable AED 1 abra ride from Deira, alight at Bur Dubai Abra Station — Meena Bazaar is a two-minute walk away.
