Arabian Tea House, Al Fahidi
Tucked inside a restored heritage house in Al Fahidi, the Arabian Tea House is Bur Dubai's most enchanting place to eat — a flower-draped courtyard where Emirati breakfasts, fresh-baked regag bread and fragrant karak tea arrive at a pace that feels deliberately, wonderfully unhurried.
The Most Atmospheric Courtyard in Old Dubai
The Arabian Tea House sits at the heart of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, its courtyard shaded by bougainvillea and hung with lanterns. It is one of the few restaurants in Dubai where the setting itself — ochre walls, wooden lattices, the distant sound of Creek traffic — is as much the draw as the food.
The menu is a gentle introduction to Emirati cuisine: regag (crispy thin bread) with cheese and honey, balaleet (sweet vermicelli with egg), ful medames, and a full spread of mezze. Wash it all down with karak chai or a pot of Arabic coffee scented with cardamom and saffron.
When to Go & What to Order
Breakfast and brunch are the prime times — the courtyard fills with morning light and the neighbourhood is at its quietest, before tour groups arrive mid-morning. The regag with cheese at around AED 22 is the signature order; the Emirati breakfast platter gives a broader tasting spread and is ideal for first-timers.
The Tea House is also a useful anchor for a wider Al Fahidi morning: fuel up here first, then wander the wind-tower lanes, visit the Coffee Museum next door and finish with an abra ride from the nearby Bur Dubai dock. Reserve a table for weekend brunch, as the courtyard fills quickly.
