Bargara Brewing Company

Perched in the beachside village of Bargara, just 14 kilometres from Bundaberg's CBD, this award-winning craft brewery has turned a converted space into one of the most enjoyable eating and drinking destinations on the Queensland coast. The taproom looks out toward the Coral Sea, and the kitchen takes its cues from the same region that supplies the brewery's water.

The Beer and the Food

Bargara Brewing uses local ingredients wherever possible — including Bundaberg-grown ginger in its signature Ginger Beer Ale, a crisp, spiced brew that perfectly captures the region's agricultural identity. The rotating tap list typically includes a tropical IPA, a session lager and a dark ale, all brewed on-site in a visible brewhouse that gives the space an honest, working character.

The food menu leans into Queensland coastal produce: Hervey Bay scallops, locally caught coral trout, and a charcuterie board stacked with Queensland cheeses and cured meats. The fish tacos with mango salsa have become something of a local institution and should not be skipped.

The Setting and the Vibe

Bargara itself is a laid-back beach village with a beautiful esplanade, tidal rock pools and a calm, family-friendly atmosphere that feels a world away from the Gold Coast. The brewery fits perfectly into that vibe — unhurried, genuinely friendly, and proud of where it comes from.

On Friday and Saturday evenings live music fills the taproom, and the crowd is an easy mix of locals and travellers. Book a table on the outdoor deck for the best light and, on clear evenings, a view of the sun dropping toward the cane fields behind the village.
