Plose Mountain Viewpoint (2,446 m)
Ride the Plose cable car from the village of Sant'Andrea (just above Bressanone) to the Plose plateau and you'll be rewarded with a panorama that sweeps from the Odle Group and Sass de Putia to the distant Ortler massif. On a clear day you can count a dozen named peaks without moving your feet.
Getting Up There
The two-stage Plose gondola departs from Sant'Andrea (reachable by free shuttle bus from Bressanone station) and climbs to the Valcroce mid-station before a second cabin carries you to the summit area at 2,446 m.
The full ascent takes about 25 minutes; the dramatic transition from orchard-covered valley floor to bare alpine rock happens fast enough to feel cinematic.
What to Do at the Top
In summer, the plateau opens into a network of signed hiking trails — the circular Plose Panorama Trail (about 2 hours, mostly flat) is ideal for families and rewards walkers with continuous Dolomite views.
The Rifugio Plose at the summit serves South Tyrolean Brettljause (cold-cut boards), Schlutzkrapfen (spinach and ricotta half-moon pasta) and excellent local Lagrein wine — eat on the sun terrace.
Winter and Shoulder Season
In winter Plose becomes Bressanone's home ski area with 40 km of runs and reliable snow from December to March; it's far quieter than the Seiser Alm or Kronplatz resorts.
September and October are arguably the finest months — the larches turn gold, the summer crowds vanish and the air is crystalline.
