Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk
The six-kilometre clifftop trail from Bondi Beach south to Coogee is arguably the most spectacular urban coastal walk in Australia, threading past sculpted sandstone headlands, hidden coves, ocean pools and Aboriginal rock engravings. The views back over Bondi from the southern headland alone are worth the trip.
The Route & Highlights
Starting at the southern end of Bondi Beach, the sealed path climbs quickly to Mackenzies Point, where a sweeping panorama of the entire Bondi crescent opens up behind you — this is the money shot. Continue south through Tamarama (nicknamed 'Glamarama' by locals for its model-heavy crowds) and into sheltered Bronte Beach, a great halfway rest stop.
Further south, Clovelly's narrow ocean inlet is so calm and clear that snorkellers share the water with large blue groper fish. The walk ends at Coogee Beach, where you can reward yourself with a cold beer at the Coogee Bay Hotel overlooking the surf.
Waverley Cemetery & Sculpture by the Sea
Perched dramatically on the headland between Bronte and Clovelly, Waverley Cemetery is one of the most beautifully situated burial grounds in the world. Established in 1877, it contains the graves of Henry Lawson and other Australian cultural figures; the ocean views from its paths are extraordinary.
Every October–November, the Sculpture by the Sea festival transforms the entire Bondi-to-Tamarama section of the walk into a free outdoor sculpture exhibition — one of the world's largest. Over 100 sculptures by Australian and international artists are anchored along the clifftops, making the walk even more rewarding.
