Maximiliansanlagen Park & the Isar Riverbank
Stretching along the Isar's high western bank both north and south of the Friedensengel, the Maximiliansanlagen is Bogenhausen's beloved green ribbon — a place where joggers, cyclists, families and daydreamers all coexist along one of Europe's most beautiful urban rivers.
A Park Designed for Strolling
The park follows the Isar's high bluff, offering recurring glimpses down through the trees to the clear, glacier-fed river below. Benches are positioned to catch the best light, and the paths are wide enough to walk two abreast without ever feeling crowded.
In summer, Münchners colonise the grassy slopes with blankets and barbecues; in autumn the park turns a vivid amber-gold that makes every photograph look effortless.
The Riverbank Path & Hidden Graffiti Gallery
Descend from the park to the riverside cycling and walking path that runs beneath the Friedensengel column, and you'll find an unexpected bonus: the underpass walls are covered in some of Munich's most accomplished street art, created by the city's most talented graffiti artists.
Continue south along the river towards the Luitpoldbrücke (Prinzregentenbrücke) for classic postcard views back up to the golden angel glinting above the tree canopy.
Practical Notes for Visitors
The park is free, always open and connects naturally to the Friedensengel viewpoint above and the Museum Villa Stuck a few minutes' walk east — making it the green thread that ties a perfect Bogenhausen afternoon together.
Cyclists can pick up a MVG Rad bike-share at several stations along Prinzregentenstraße and follow the dedicated Isar cycle path north all the way to the Englischer Garten.
