Mercado Municipal de Benidorm
Benidorm's covered municipal market on Calle Martínez Oriola is where the town shops for fruit, vegetables, fish, and cured meats — and where a visitor can eat a better breakfast for €2 than anywhere on the seafront. It is small, authentic, and completely unhyped.
What's Inside
The market occupies a modest 1970s building but the produce inside is anything but ordinary. Local farmers bring in seasonal Valencian fruit — blood oranges from Orihuela, fresh figs, and enormous tomatoes — alongside stalls heaped with dried peppers, saffron, and pimentón. The fish counter at the back receives daily deliveries from the Villajoyosa fish auction, just 12 km down the coast.
The charcuterie stalls stock jamón from the interior of Valencia province alongside local embutidos including longaniza de Pascua, a mild pork sausage flavoured with cinnamon and anise that you will not find in any supermarket.
Eating at the Market
A handful of tiny bar counters inside the market open from 7 am, serving café con leche, freshly squeezed orange juice, and bocadillos stuffed with tortilla or cured tuna. It is the best-value breakfast in Benidorm, full stop.
On Friday mornings a small outdoor extension spills onto the surrounding streets, adding clothing, ceramics, and household goods to the mix. Arrive before 10 am for the full experience before the best produce sells out.
