Cerro Campanario
National Geographic once named it one of the finest panoramas on the planet — and standing at the top, you'll stop arguing and just stare. A seven-minute open chairlift ride drops you above a jaw-dropping spread of lakes, islands, and Andean peaks that stretches in every direction without a single obstruction.
The View That Sells Bariloche
At just 1,050 m, Cerro Campanario is far from the tallest peak around Bariloche, but position is everything: it sits dead-centre between the lakes, so the panorama opens in every direction simultaneously. You can pick out Lago Nahuel Huapi and Lago Moreno, the tiny El Trébol lagoon, Victoria Island, and the toy-like silhouette of the legendary Llao Llao hotel all at once.
The aerosilla — a classic two-person open chairlift — makes the ascent effortless and scenic in itself, with the lenga beech forest unspooling below your feet. Hikers can also tackle a well-marked foot trail to the summit if they prefer to earn the view.
Timing & Tips
Arrive at opening time or just before — crowds build quickly by mid-afternoon and the chairlift queue can stretch to 20 minutes or more by 4 pm. Early morning light also turns the lake surface into hammered copper, making for far better photos.
A cafeteria at the summit serves pastries and hot drinks, so there is no need to rush back down. Cerro Campanario is a natural stop on the Circuito Chico loop, making it easy to combine with a full day of lakeside driving.
