Moonshine Phuket — Speakeasy Jazz Bar
There is a door on Lagoon Road in Bang Tao that gives nothing away from the outside — step through it and you are somewhere else entirely: crimson velvet, candlelight, and the low growl of a double bass warming up in the corner. Welcome to the island's only true speakeasy-style gastropub.
The Speakeasy Atmosphere
Hidden along Lagoon Road in Bang Tao, Moonshine Phuket is the island's only true speakeasy-style bar and gastropub — a deliberate contrast to the beach-club scene just minutes away. The interior trades sea views for mood: think low lighting, velvet seating, and a stage that fills with live musicians most evenings.
The bar runs live bands most weekend nights — Frankie Hong's Trio on Fridays, the Chill Out Jazz Band on Saturdays, and Cole Ley on Sundays — all running into the late evening. It is live music and a late bar rather than a DJ dance floor, which makes it genuinely rare in Phuket.
Food & Drinks
The menu is Italian-American gastropub fare — think well-made cocktails, a serious whisky list, and hearty mains in the 800–1,500 THB per head range. It is the kind of place where you order a Negroni and end up staying for three.
The crowd is a mix of expats, long-stay visitors, and locals who know — which means the vibe is convivial rather than touristy. Reservations are recommended on Friday and Saturday nights when the live music draws a full house.
Getting There
Moonshine sits on Lagoon Road, close to Boat Avenue and the Laguna Phuket complex — easy to combine with dinner at one of the nearby restaurants before heading in for a late drink. The entrance is deliberately understated, so look carefully for the door.
Open Tuesday to Sunday, 5 pm to midnight, closed Mondays. A Grab from central Bang Tao Beach takes about five minutes and costs under 100 THB.
