Bandstand Promenade & Walk of the Stars

Bandra's 1.2-kilometre seafront walkway is equal parts jogging track, open-air gallery and celebrity-spotting ground — and it costs nothing to walk it. The warm Arabian Sea breeze, the crash of waves against basalt rocks and the shimmer of the Sea Link in the distance make it the city's finest free show.

A Promenade With a Bollywood Pedigree

The walkway's official name is Byramji Jeejeebhoy Road, after the Parsi philanthropist who built it in the 19th century, when a European military bandstand here entertained expat traders — hence the name that stuck long after the bandstand itself disappeared.

Lining the promenade are some of Mumbai's most expensive addresses: the bungalows and sea-view apartments of Bollywood royalty including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are visible from the public footpath, making an early-morning walk here feel faintly surreal.

The 2-km Walk of the Stars section honours the film industry with around 100 brass plates embossed with stars' handprints and signatures, plus several life-size statues — a concept directly inspired by Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Tides, Rocks & Evening Rituals

Unlike sandy beaches, Bandstand is a rocky shoreline where the tidal rhythm creates constantly shifting scenery: at high tide waves slam the boundary wall in dramatic spray; at low tide the stony beach profile emerges like a natural sculpture garden.

The promenade features stadium-style stepped seating, a parallel ledge for sunset-watchers, a public gym, a children's park and an amphitheatre at the Land's End end that hosts the Mumbai Festival and Celebrate Bandra events.

Evenings are the social peak — families, fitness enthusiasts, couples and street-food vendors all converge, creating the kind of democratic, joyful crowd that only Mumbai can produce.
