Phu Quoc National Park Trails near Bai Thom
The road from Duong Dong to Bai Thom cuts right through the heart of Phu Quoc National Park — and if you slow down and step off the tarmac, a network of unmarked jungle trails opens up a world of silver langurs, wild boars and flying squirrels that most island visitors never see.
Into the Forest
The national park section closest to Bai Thom Commune is among the most lush, dense and biodiverse stretches of protected forest on the entire island. Several unmarked trails branch off the main road, offering raw, unguided encounters with primary rainforest canopy, dense undergrowth and the sounds of a genuinely wild ecosystem.
Wildlife sightings here include silver langurs, macaques, wild boars, flying squirrels and deer — best spotted in the early morning or late afternoon when animals move to forest edges. Bring binoculars and walk slowly.
Riding Through the Park
The motorbike journey north from Duong Dong to Bai Thom is widely regarded as the most enjoyable road trip on Phu Quoc, passing through shaded forest tunnels where the canopy closes overhead and the temperature drops noticeably. Plan to stop frequently — the light through the trees in the morning is extraordinary.
Because the trails are unmarked, it is strongly advisable to hire a local guide from Bai Thom Village or join a small-group 'North Island' jeep tour that includes a forest stop. Going solo deep into the park without a guide or GPS is not recommended.
