Hon Mot Island (Đảo Hòn Một)
A tiny, forest-cloaked island sitting just metres off Thom Beach, Hon Mot is one of Phu Quoc's most magical micro-adventures — at low tide you can literally stroll across a narrow sandbar to reach it, feeling like you're walking on water.
The Tidal Crossing
At low tide, a natural sandbar and a narrow wooden bridge connect Thom Beach to Hon Mot, making it possible to walk across on foot. When the tides rise, the only way to reach the island is by rented boat or a short, brave swim — which adds a pleasing sense of occasion to the visit.
Once ashore, the island reveals a diverse tangle of morning glory vines and mangrove trees with dramatic long roots arching into the shallows. It is almost entirely isolated from the outside world, enveloped by forest and sea on every side.
What to Do on the Island
Hon Mot is ideal for camping, swimming and fishing off the rocks. Some 'North Island' tour operators include a stop here specifically so guests can photograph the Cambodian coastline from the island's rocky eastern tip — a perspective you simply cannot get from the mainland.
Tidal creatures are the real attraction at the water's edge: crabs, sea snails, small crustaceans and conch shells litter the rocks at low tide, making it a natural foraging playground for curious travellers.
Pack your own food and water — there are no facilities on the island itself, so treat it as a half-day picnic adventure rather than a resort stop.
