Belvédère du Cap Manvieux (Arromanches Cliffs)
A short but rewarding walk east of town along the GR223 coastal path brings you to the clifftop viewpoint above Cap Manvieux, where a single sweeping glance takes in Gold Beach, the surviving Mulberry harbour pontoons, the Arromanches 360° cinema and, on a clear day, the coastline stretching towards Courseulles-sur-Mer. It is the single best free photograph in the area.
The Walk Up
From the town centre, follow the signs for the 360° cinema and continue east along the cliff edge path — the full walk from the seafront to the best viewpoint takes about 20 minutes on a well-maintained gravel trail.
The path passes an orientation table that identifies the harbour structures by name, which is enormously helpful for understanding what you are looking at below.
Golden Hour and Beyond
Late afternoon light turns the English Channel a deep gold and catches the rusted caissons beautifully — photographers should plan to arrive around two hours before sunset.
In summer the wildflowers along the cliff edge — poppies, ox-eye daisies and yellow gorse — add vivid foreground colour to any wide-angle shot of the bay.
