La Faisanderie Restaurant

Set inside a handsome 18th-century vaulted cellar just off Grand'Place, La Faisanderie has been the benchmark for refined northern French cooking in Arras for decades. Chef Jean-Pierre Dargent champions Hauts-de-France produce — Boulogne fish, Artois lamb, locally grown chicory — with classical technique and none of the fussiness that can make fine dining feel joyless.

What to Order

Start with the terrine de foie gras maison or, if the season is right, a warm tart of endive and maroilles — a combination that tastes definitively of this corner of France. The fish dishes showcase the short supply chain from Boulogne-sur-Mer, just 90 km away; sole and turbot arrive in pristine condition.

For dessert the tarte au sucre — a flat, buttery sugar tart that is the region's most humble and most addictive pastry — is sometimes on the menu and should be ordered without hesitation. The wine list leans heavily French with good Burgundy and Loire options.

Atmosphere & Booking

The vaulted stone cellar dining room is intimate and warmly lit, making it an excellent choice for a special dinner. Service is formal but never stiff — staff are happy to explain dishes and suggest wine pairings in English.

Lunch is the better-value entry point: the weekday formule (starter + main or main + dessert) hovers around €25–35 and represents outstanding value for the quality. Reserve at least two days ahead for weekends.
