Sellaronda Ski & Hiking Circuit

The Sellaronda is one of the great mountain circuits on earth — a 26-km loop encircling the entire Sella massif across four legendary passes: Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena. Arabba sits right on the circuit at Passo Campolongo, making the village the perfect base whether you are clipping into ski boots in February or lacing up trail shoes in July.

The Winter Ski Circuit

In ski season the Sellaronda links the Dolomiti Superski resorts of Arabba, Canazei, Selva Val Gardena and Corvara into a single flowing itinerary served by 26 lifts. The clockwise direction is generally quieter on weekday mornings; start from Arabba, ride the Porta Vescovo gondola and you are immediately on high-altitude red and black pistes with the Marmolada glacier filling the horizon.

The full loop takes a confident intermediate skier about five hours of actual skiing, leaving plenty of time for a sit-down lunch at one of the mountain huts along the way — Rifugio Boè above Passo Pordoi is a perennial favourite.

The Summer Hiking Version

When the snow melts, the same circuit becomes the Alta Via Sellaronda Hiking Trail, a two-day (or ambitious one-day) trek connecting the four passes on well-signed paths through meadows thick with gentians and edelweiss.

Arabba's tourist office distributes a free detailed map; the section from Passo Campolongo to Passo Pordoi via Rifugio Fodom is particularly rewarding, passing high pastures grazed by the local Haflinger horses and offering unobstructed views of the Civetta wall to the south.
