Passo Pordoi Summit Terrace
At 2,239 m the Passo Pordoi is already dramatic, but ride the Sass Pordoi cable car another 500 metres and you step onto a flat, wind-scoured terrace surrounded by the sheerest walls in the Dolomites. The 360-degree panorama takes in Marmolada's glacier, the Sella massif and the jagged spires of the Langkofel — a view that makes every other viewpoint feel like a rehearsal.
Getting to the Top
The Funivia Sass Pordoi departs from the pass itself, whisking you to 2,950 m in under five minutes. The upper station has a small refuge, the Rifugio Maria, where you can warm up with a bowl of goulash before stepping back outside.
From the terrace, marked paths lead along the plateau edge — no technical climbing required — giving you ever-changing angles on the surrounding peaks. Sunrise and the last hour before sunset turn the limestone towers a molten amber that photographers call 'enrosadira'.
Planning Your Visit
The pass sits on the SS48 between Arabba and Canazei, about 8 km west of Arabba village — a straightforward drive or an exhilarating cycling stage of the Sella Ronda loop.
In winter the area becomes part of the Sellaronda ski circuit; in summer it is a hub for high-altitude hiking. Always bring an extra layer: even in August the terrace temperature can drop to near freezing when clouds roll in.
