Lokhandwala Complex & Oshiwara

Lokhandwala Complex and the adjoining Oshiwara neighbourhood in Andheri West form Mumbai's most effortlessly cool urban village — a grid of tree-lined streets where film directors lunch at pavement cafés, indie boutiques spill onto the footpath, and the energy shifts from creative-industry buzz by day to a lively bar-and-restaurant scene by night.

The Neighbourhood Feel

Unlike South Mumbai's grand colonial architecture or Bandra's Instagram-famous walls, Lokhandwala-Oshiwara earns its appeal through texture and density: the mix of residential towers, production houses, independent coffee shops, yoga studios and neighbourhood temples packed into a walkable grid.

The area is home to a significant chunk of Mumbai's film and television industry. Production houses, casting offices and costume studios are tucked between apartment blocks, meaning a morning coffee here might be shared with a director, a costume designer or a Bollywood background dancer.

Oshiwara in particular has gentrified quietly and confidently, with a cluster of craft-beer bars, farm-to-table restaurants and concept stores along New Link Road that rival anything in Bandra — without Bandra's weekend traffic gridlock.

What to Eat, Drink and Do

Start the day at one of the many Irani-style cafés near the Lokhandwala Circle for a cutting chai and bun maska, then walk south toward the Oshiwara market for fresh produce and flower garlands sold from the pavement.

Evenings are when the neighbourhood truly comes alive. The strip of restaurants along Lokhandwala Back Road — running from the circle toward the Oshiwara river — serves everything from Mangalorean fish curry to wood-fired pizzas, and the outdoor seating fills up fast after 8 PM.

The ISKCON Temple on Juhu Church Road, a short auto-rickshaw ride away, provides a serene counterpoint to the neighbourhood's urban buzz — its Janmashtami festival in August draws thousands and is one of Andheri's most spectacular annual events.
