Teatro Duse
The Teatro Duse sits inside the walls of Caterina Cornaro's old castle, which tells you something about how Asolo layers its centuries. What looks like a modest civic theater is in fact the third version of a stage that has occupied this spot since 1798 — and when workers stripped the plaster during the 1932 reconstruction, they found 16th-century fresco fragments underneath, the castle quietly asserting itself.
The theater's 341 seats are named for Eleonora Duse, the actress buried in Asolo's small cemetery up the hill. The town renamed it for her in 1932 by what the mayor called "unanimous desire of the citizenry" — a rare piece of civic sentiment that actually made it into the official record.

Worth knowing: the crystal chandelier from the original 1857 theater now hangs in the Municipal Council Hall nearby — a small, specific thing to look for on the way past.
The story behind Teatro Duse
A permanent theater was commissioned inside Caterina Cornaro's castle in 1798, designed by architect Antonio Locatelli and inaugurated on the evening of 20 November that year. By 1855 the structure needed rethinking: engineer-architect Francesco Martignago redesigned it as a proper proscenium theater with three tiers of wooden boxes, completed in 1857.
By 1927 the building was declared unsafe and handed to the municipality. The old wooden interior was dismantled in 1931 and sold to a Venetian antiquarian named Loewi — it eventually traveled to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida, where it was reconstructed. The replacement theater, designed by architect Forlati, opened on 28 April 1932 and took the name of Eleonora Duse. A 1990 restoration fitted it with raw-wood construction for multipurpose use.

Buses run roughly 12 times daily from Bassano del Grappa (25 minutes) and 10 times from Treviso (55 minutes), stopping at Ca' Vescovo in the valley; shuttles climb to the old town from there. We went to see this little concert performed with skill and passion by these guys from Volpago, all organized to raise funds for the IOV of Castelfranco in the Duse theater in Asolo
I really liked it...it reminds me of the theatre as it once was
The venue is located in the basement of the theatre, a very suggestive historical location, beautiful inside too, with outdoor seating, very romantic, 5 stars also for the location.
