Marina di Vietri sits at the western gateway of the Amalfi Coast, where the cliffs finally relent and the shore opens into a broad arc of dark volcanic sand threaded with small pebbles. At one end, a squat square tower — a survivor of the old coastal defence network — stands watch over the beach; at the other, the river Bonea quietly divides the strand in two. It is one of the few stretches of genuine sand on this coast, which makes it a practical base as much as a scenic one.
The marina has its own piazza, its own restaurants lining the waterfront, and in summer a loose calendar of outdoor concerts. From the main jetty, boats run out to small coves that have no road access — the kind of swimming spots that require a short voyage to earn.

The story behind Spiaggia di Marina di Vietri
The beach as it exists today is essentially an accident of catastrophe. Before 1954, this stretch of coast had no significant sand — the seabed was rocky and the shore narrow. Then, in October of that year, a severe flood sent torrents of mud, sand, and debris rolling down the valley, submerging the coastline from Vietri to Minori. When the water receded, it had deposited roughly 100 metres of new sandy beach and reshaped the seabed beneath it.
The built fabric around the shore is older. A church dedicated to Sant'Antonio dates to 1607, originally attached to a monastery whose order was later suppressed; by 1864 the building had been repurposed as an orphanage. The lookout tower at the beach's edge belongs to the same coastal defence network that punctuates this entire stretch of southern Italian shoreline.

The beach is a 10-minute walk from Vietri sul Mare train station, which sits on the Naples–Salerno line — Salerno is just 10 minutes away. Avoid La Baia at the eastern end near the port; the water there is noticeably poorer. Umbrella and sunbed hire runs roughly €15–35 depending on row and season. A half-day is enough; a full day is easy.
July through September offer the warmest swimming, with sea temperatures between 25°C and 26°C and little rain. The beach is accessible and pleasant from April through October; outside those months the water drops sharply, reaching around 14°C in February.
