The path begins quietly — a dirt track above Conca dei Marini that climbs through rosemary and arbutus until the Tyrrhenian Sea fills your peripheral vision and doesn't let go. This is the Conca dei Marini access point for the Sentiero degli Dei, the eight-kilometre limestone ridge walk that connects the mountain village of Bomerano to Nocelle at roughly 500 to 650 metres above the coast.
For most of its history, this trail was simply how people moved between villages — and how they fled into the mountains when pirate ships appeared on the water below. The red-and-white waymarkers (trail 02) are a recent addition. The path itself is considerably older than any signage.

People who've walked it more than once tend to agree on a few things: start from Bomerano rather than Nocelle so the sea views open in front of you rather than behind, bring more water than seems necessary given the near-total lack of shade, and save something for the granita kiosk called Lemon Point in Nocelle's piazza — the frozen lemon version is worth the 300-step descent to reach it.

Long before anyone named it, the path was infrastructure — the thread connecting Amalfi Coast villages to one another and to the mountains above. When Saracen pirates raided the coast, as they did with regularity through the medieval period, these high routes were the escape. The Torre Saracena visible in Conca dei Marini below dates to 1563, built precisely to watch for those same threats.
The name Sentiero degli Dei — Path of the Gods — came later. Italian historian Giustino Fortunato applied it in the 19th century, drawing on a local tradition that the ridge sat so far above ordinary human life that only gods could walk there. The difficulty of the narrow limestone path, with its drop-offs and exposure, gave the legend its logic.
Good to know
Take the SITA bus from Amalfi to Bomerano (around one hour, EUR 1.30) and walk west toward Nocelle, then ferry back from Positano. Spring and autumn are the right seasons — summer midday sun on the exposed ridgeline is relentless. The trail is free and open; closures happen only for wildfires or landslides. Wear hiking shoes: the limestone gravel slides.
April through June brings mild temperatures, gorse in bloom, and manageable crowds. September and October offer warm light and quieter mornings. Summer is hot and mostly shadeless on the ridge; winter rains make the limestone treacherous and can trigger small landslides that close the trail temporarily.

Exceptional - must do experience. It’s a moderate hike. There a lots of handrails, stairs and some of the best views of the coast.
The best hike experience we did as a whole family. The total hike all the way down to Positano is around 4hrs and 30mins. The view is breath taking. So happy we get to experience the Path Of Gods. We walk from our abnb at Agerola to this place all the way down to Positano. Highly recommended.
Great trail with stunning scenery. The trail splits in the middle, offering a low pass and a high pass. It took about 3 hours to complete. There was no public transportation at the end of the town, which I believe was called Nocelle. There, you have three options: either continue on another path that goes down to Shore Town, where you can find public transportation; order a taxi; or loop back and head the way you came.
Beautiful hike/walk. Visible signs and paths. Amazing views. We did the hike roughly 2,5-3 hours with stops. We started from Agerola. I recommend to walk the path back to where you started because it was sooooo much trouble and inconvenience to take the bus back to where we started. I think we did at least different 2-3 bus rides. Which took as the same amount of time to get back to our car. So take it easy when you’re at Positano, relax before walking back. It will save you a lot time and waiting for the bus.
Very nice path. Komoot Said it is on a moderate Level, but I recommend being prepared for a big amount of steps. I also would Not Chose the Upper path on cloudy dass, as you will Not See anything. Aparte from that it is really worth to hike it.
