Riviera Mallozzi Beach
The stretch of sand between Nero's Grotto and the port goes by two names — Riviera di Ponente, and the one locals actually use: Riviera Mallozzi. It's a narrow beach of fine golden sand, backed by a promenade where the serious business of the evening involves fried fish and gelato, in that order.
Breakwaters calm the water into something gentle enough for children to wade in without drama, and the slope into the sea is forgiving. In 2024 the beach earned both the F.E.E. Blue Flag and the Green Flag for child-friendly beaches — recognition that reflects what you'll observe on any August afternoon.

People who come back tend to land at Baia di Ponente for lunch — the crudo plate and the fried fish both earn their reputation, and the prices won't sting. Go early in the evening for a promenade walk before the tables fill; the light off the water at that hour is reason enough.
The story behind Riviera Mallozzi Beach
This corner of the Tyrrhenian coast has been in use since long before the promenade existed. The territory of Anzio was the Volscian city of Antium before Rome took it in 338 BC and made it the oldest Roman colony on this stretch of coastline. The beach now called Riviera Mallozzi sits within the shadow of that layered past — Nero's Grotto marks its western edge, and the ruins of Nero's coastal villa once extended across the cape for roughly 800 metres.
The beach itself came under formal concession in 2014, when the local health authority ASL RMH took over management of the Riviera di Ponente strip. The children's playground and breakwaters that define its character today belong to that more recent chapter.
Good to know
Take the FL8 train from Roma Termini — trains run roughly every hour, a round trip costs €7.20, and the beach is a 15-minute walk from Anzio station. The promenade is free; you pay only when you eat or drink. Late May through September is the window for swimming.
Summer runs warm and dry — July and August average around 28°C, with water temperatures reaching 25°C by August and very few rain days. Spring (May–June) and early autumn offer the same pleasant range of 20–26°C with smaller crowds. January and February are mild by northern European standards but cool enough that the beach empties entirely.
