Pinacoteca dei Concordi (Accademia dei Concordi)
The Pinacoteca dei Concordi sits inside Palazzo Roverella, a Renaissance building begun in 1474 for Cardinal Bartolomeo Roverella and left unfinished when he died just three years later — its red brick and white marble facade a quiet record of interrupted ambition. Today it holds around 400 paintings, mostly Venetian school work spanning the 15th to 18th centuries, alongside an archaeological section with Egyptian and Greco-Roman material that arrives as a genuine surprise.
The collection grew the way provincial collections often do: through portraits of local worthies, a bequest from the Casilini family in 1833 that turned a private salon into a public gallery, and a major Silvestri donation in 1876 that doubled the scope. There are canvases by Giambattista Tiepolo and Giambattista Piazzetta here, in a city that most visitors pass straight through.

The Bibbia Istoriata Padovana — a late 14th-century illuminated manuscript in the library — is worth asking about specifically; not all of it is on permanent display. Gaspare Campo founded the Accademia dei Concordi in 1580, initially as a learned society whose walls were hung with portraits of illustrious members — Cardinal Bartolomeo Roverella, the humanist Celio Rodigino, the jurist Giovanni Bonifacio. The gallery as such dates to 1833, when the Casilini family's painting collection arrived and the portraits found themselves sharing space with genuine old masters.
The 1876 Silvestri donation — assembled by counts Gerolamo and Cardinal Pietro Silvestri — transformed the institution's scale. From 1982 it absorbed the Bishop's Seminary collection, adding over 200 works. Since 2005, everything has been housed in the restored Palazzo Roverella, whose architect Biagio Rossetti never saw it completed.

I requested a book from another library and they managed to get it to me on time. Renewing is easy—just call again. It's a shame I can't do it digitally. Very friendly staff!
The library is well-stocked. There are some shelves with prominently displayed books, but the rest are not accessible independently. You must either obtain the code online and provide it to the staff, or ask directly for the book and they will find the code and retrieve it. The young staff is always very kind and helpful.
An exhibition on Art and Magic in European Art between the 19th and 20th Centuries. The art-historical research is highly interesting, but few pieces on display can be considered masterpieces. At Palazzo Roverella, until January 29, 2019. The ticket also includes access to the Pinacoteca dell'Accademia dei Concordi, with 16th-century works on display at Palazzo Roverella. Those from the 17th and 18th centuries are located nearby, at the Academy.
